GTA VI Preload Checklist

One full week before launch to download the game in advance.

The game unlocks at midnight in your region. Preload = play immediately at launch.

GTA VI launches only on current-gen consoles. Xbox One / PS4 are not supported. PC is not dated.

Make sure your console firmware is up to date so nothing blocks the download.

On PS5: Settings → Saved Data and Game/App Settings → Auto-Download. On Xbox: Settings → System → Updates.

Rockstar has not confirmed the install size. Plan for a large current-gen title and keep generous space free.

External USB drives work for storage on both consoles. For playing, PS5 requires the internal SSD; Xbox Series can play from USB if the drive is fast enough.

Clear space by removing titles you no longer play. Archive capture gallery clips to external storage.

Digital preorders on PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store trigger the preload automatically from November 12.

Physical copies contain a download code — redeem it on your console as soon as you receive it so preload works.

Standard ($79.99) gives the base game. Ultimate ($99.99 digital-only) adds the Ultimate content pack.

A large download on a slow connection may take many hours. Test your connection before November 12.

Ethernet is faster and more stable than Wi-Fi for large downloads. Switch to wired during preload week.

Preload opens November 12. Start the download early in the day so it finishes before you go to bed.

Suspend Steam downloads, system updates, or streaming in 4K to give the preload full bandwidth.

Check your library or game tile — it should show 'Pre-loaded' or similar status.

Rockstar may release a day-one patch on November 19. Factor in extra time if so.

Make sure your controller is fully charged or plugged in when launch unlocks.
